Violence and trauma are common in the United States and pose an enormous threat to public health. To provide the most appropriate care, health care professionals must understand the effects of potentially traumatizing experiences on both physical and mental health. Physicians and behavioral scientists with expertise, experience, and interest in caring for patients affected by trauma are working in collaboration to author Trauma-Informed Care e-cases. These cases are a collaboration between the Office on Women’s’ Health and the non-profit educational organization MedU. The project is half-way through the 4-year process of creating a set of 60 15-minute-long virtual patient cases. These will be freely available to any interested individual but are designed for practicing primary care practitioners. The cases could be incorporated into medical student and resident curricula, either to meet core curricular needs or to fill in educational gaps.
