This scholarly project consisted of the development of a user manual for new USAF behavioral science faculty with the goal of increasing the rate of competency for new accessions. A panel of senior USAF behavioral scientists was surveyed to assess their value of training prior to serving in the position, the time it took for them to feel competent at their job, and in hindsight, how long it would have taken to feel competent had they been offered the prototype user manual. Results indicated that participants felt the manual would decrease the time to achieve competency by 11 months. In conclusion, the USAF is encouraged to adopt the user manual as a method of informing potential candidates about the position and to orient new behavioral science faculty to their first assignment.
