Developing a list of essential competencies in ultrasound requires we define collectively as family medicine faculty what ultrasound skills are most essential to a family medicine practice. In this session we review how competency based educational standards have been developed in obstetric and emergency medicine residencies. We will then propose rationale for defining a national competency list in family medicine that borrows but also differs from other specialties. We will share surveys of how faculty at Oregon Health and Sciences rated importance of competency areas. We then intend to survey providers within the session to ask what components of ultrasound they find most essential to our current and future skill needs.#2017
