Initiating a New Faculty Group Within a Family Medicine Residency

08-28-2020 15:11

Undertaking an educational role can be daunting and overwhelming. To help overcome this intimidating scenario, we created a New Faculty Group at our residency program. All new faculty (within the first seven years of their careers) were invited to join a monthly four hour session. Each session had a specific agenda that included leadership skills development, hands-on project, a faculty development and behavioral session component. The group was lead by a fifth-year faculty member with experience in the onboarding process as well as with new faculty development. This session shares the experiences (including pros and cons) to using this method as an onboarding tool.
