This resource includes the 1) slide set: Update from the AAMC Core EPA Pilot; 2) Core Entrustable Professional Activities for Entering Residency: Toolkits for the 13 Core EPAs - Abridged; 3) EPA6 FIU Qualtrics Survey - an example of one institutions's method of collecting evaluations; 4) EPA4 OHSU EHR Competency RubricThis session featured the collective work of 10 schools working together on an AAMC-sponsored pilot program to implement the 13 Core Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) for Entering Residency. The objectives were to (a) review the guiding principles and goals of the pilot, (b) provide an update on progress made to date; (c) explore the concepts of "entrustment" and “trustworthiness” and how supervisory and co-activity scales can be incorporated into workplace based assessments and (d) identify one EPA that you could currently assess; and, using the provided toolkit, how you might go about implementing the EPA framework for curricular interventions, student engagement, faculty development, and student assessment. In 2014, AAMC published Guides to introduce the Core EPAs. One year later, AAMC selected 10 schools to explore the feasibility of implementing the EPA construct in UME – The pilot has developed toolkits to foster a shared mental model and assist in successful implementation of a Core EPA curriculum and assessment system. In the toolkits, each EPA is represented by a one-page schematic presenting the major behavioral tasks or skills of the EPA with distinct stages of learner development. Our goal is to share toolkits and illustrate how institutions might use these for learner assessment, curriculum interventions, and learner and supervisor engagement, in an interactive session that builds upon attendee perspectives and experiences.
