Introduction to Articine: An Innovative Way to Enhance Medical Training Using Arts-based Strategies, Focusing on Building Empathy

By Bobby Kelly, MD, MPH, Articine

Co-founder, clinical adviser and director of education, Bobby Kelly, MD, MPH, FAAFP, will introduce Articine’s award-winning approach to enhancing medical training to help build empathy in our healthcare providers. Medical education has begun embracing innovative teaching strategies, but too often these approaches exclude the incorporation of the arts as a teaching modality. Dr. Kelly, a Family Medicine physician leader, will discuss several programming examples that Articine employs with healthcare and educational partners, as well as research and data behind their efficacy. He will share several multimedia clips of these innovative healthcare educational tools with the audience, and the session will include the opportunity for attendees to brainstorm ways that they can incorporate innovative strategies of learning into their curriculum. Finally, attendees can expect to leave the session with tangible tools to help promote wellness in their institution, for both learners and faculty.
