Unleashing your creative side: making your own models for procedural training

06-09-2012 20:04

Procedural training is variable and sometimes inadequate among Family Medicine Residencies and Medical School training. One barrier is a lack of clinical opportunities. We have created a hands-on procedure workshop curriculum utilizing training models to overcome that obstacle. To overcome the substantial cost of purchasing professionally made training models, we utilized inexpensive, everyday products to create our own training models. Participants will explore our procedural curriculum, the models we created and share their own success stories for procedural training. Through observation and hands-on creation, participants will learn to make toenail, circumcision and women's health procedure models. Participants will leave with moulds and prototype models. We will brainstorm how other models can be created and what commonly found resources can be used to create them. FMDRL_ID: 3990
