An original quantitative survey exploring medical students’ preclinical experiences and their confidence and feelings of preparedness for clinical training, impressions of the preclinical curriculum, and empathy scores based on their participation in volunteer programs in a high-volume abortion clinic and other clinical volunteer settings. Includes demographic questions, 14 questions regarding students' perceptions of their clinical competence and confidence, and 4 questions about how students feel the preclinical curriculum prepared them in domains of medical knowledge, management and assessment, and patient centered communication. It concludes with questions adapted from the Jefferson empathy scale
