Challenging Patient Curriculum for Family Medicine Residents

02-15-2013 13:09

The attached curriculum and assessment modules are designed to better prepare family medicine residents to meet the needs of certain challenging patient populations, including elderly patients with multiple chronic illnesses, refugees and immigrants, and patients with chronic pain. Modules for each patient population have been developed for each of the post graduate years (3 modules per patient population) and reflect increasing complexity. Curricula are structured through a proposed 2 hour workshop format. Assessments are structured via the use of standardized patients. Each module contains the following: 1) a step by step guide for instructors to enable them to teach the relevant workshop 2) all associated handouts, references for reading material, and teaching materials 3) all needed case materials to implement the associated standardized patient case, including: a) standardized patient training materials b) case materials for the actual assessment c) associated post encounter checklist FMDRL_ID: 4265
