IN STRIDE was developed as a tool to introduce medical students and residents to the relevance of cultural competence and health literacy in diabetes care. Small group teaching methods were employed to maximally engage students and residents. Residents were introduced in the context of quality improvement and Pay-for-Performance and urged to explore how community health center diabetic patient populations might be affected in environments with limited consideration of health literacy or cultural competence.
