This presentation and handouts outlines the operations and results of a two year study that assessed the impact of incorporating embedded allied actors into formative Observed Structured Clinical Exams for third-year medical students. Embedded allied actors are individuals other than the patient who are scripted in to provide realistic, additional challenges and information for learners. The role of the embedded allied actors were a pharmacy student in a case scenario involving a patient with chronic pain and a social worker in a case scenario involving a mother and adult child dealing with end of life issues related to the husband/father.
